Going to the Chapel?

6/29/2013

Ok, so I don’t blog often but I have to get this off my chest…. I hope this is not how all chapels in Vegas are run: An "outsiders" experience.

I am going to preface this with a few things:
1.  I am not “against” chapels or couples that choose the chapel experience in any way, shape or form.
2.  I am under the assumption that most chapels provide their own officiants (with a required ministers fee) but allow licensed ‘outsiders’ at the bride/grooms request.

I have discussed with many friends/family members that I was interested in working at a chapel this summer to get the real “chapel” experience. Well, I just got one of those experiences and I no longer have that desire. I think on-location wedding ceremonies and working with photographers in a more relaxed, no pressure setting is more up my alley!!

The scene:

-60 guests

-110 degrees outside

-7:30pm ceremony time. The prior ceremony was still there at 7:45pm so it didn’t start until close to 8pm

-dirty towels, glass bottles, and trash in the chapel area that I had to move!

-flowers on the isle from the previous ceremonies were not cleaned up.  (This can’t possibly be typical chapel protocol----right??)

-they handed me a microphone with no batteries. After batteries were put in, the microphone echoed so I didn't even end up using it. (No one runs sounds----oh wait, the officiant does!---see below)

-the music was run through an iPod (quite typical and OK) BUT it had to be run by ME (I haven’t practiced this before….yikes!) AND the mic and music couldn't be on at the same time so I had to switch the channels through the sound system----anyway, it was quite a little disaster. Lol.

-the photographer shot the entire ceremony from behind me….which I  felt was weird based on my prior wedding experiences….and her HUGE video tripod (again, behind me) was in the way and when I stepped to the side for the kiss I think I blocked it with my head because of the weird placement (Sorry!!) She seemed so cold and I guess I understand she is trying to make a sale, but geez!!

Anyway, this is what I don’t understand…..why would a chapel make things so difficult for an “outsider”??  You still want the bride/groom to be happy regardless of the minister they chose….right?

Well, I think this Bride&Groom were overall quite happy with the ceremony which is the most important part as far as I am concerened----and I really hope I didn't ruin their wedding video!  :(

You want to book a same-day ceremony for 11 p.m.....? Well, you got it!
It is your wedding day, and I will go out of my way to ensure it is one of the very best, most memorable (and FUN) days of your life!!!

Just some extra info about me:
I don't have set days/hours.....
I do not "charge" extra for unity candles or sand ceremonies.....
And I don't have a minimum gratuity.......

Want a laugh???  Go to: www.freevegaswedding.com ---how can it be FREE but you charge a minimum "gratuity" due IN ADVANCE??!! Lol!!!!

***I mean, yea....I tell people I typically receive $75-200.....but I don't REQUIRE it!!!--- It is free. Truly free. And any tip I'm given is extremely generous of my couples and I am thankful to each and every one of them that show their appreciation for my service!)

Anyway..... It is truly YOUR day, YOUR way..... Please don't forget that or get suckered into something that seems "fishy"!

Xoxo

I am a terrible blogger.

One bride recently commented on a facebook photo I posted.

The picture was of a couple who had ended up getting married at a local Starbucks (after a serious of events that prevented them from being able to use the "garden location" that I offer.)

The bride-to-be commented about how stressed she was in the planing of her wedding and that it was enlightening to see the couple.....because even though they weren't in a beautiful scenic courtyard or expensive banquet facility, the bride and groom were beaming with joy that they were married.

Now, isn't that what marriage is all about??

Wedding Mixer: Success

1/21/2013

On Saturday, January 19 I organized a wedding mixer. It was the first time I ever dabbled in the "event planning" industry and although it wasn't great, it wasn't horrible either.

The vendors were all amazing--- but next time we need more brides/grooms!! (We had SOME, so it wasn't a total waste!)

Still brainstorming ideas for the next one, but looking forward to it in late February.
I am so glad I have the "king-of-events" in my life to help me out and give me a location for free.  That helps a LOT!

Info coming soon.
