Going to the Chapel?

Ok, so I don’t blog often but I have to get this off my chest…. I hope this is not how all chapels in Vegas are run: An "outsiders" experience.

I am going to preface this with a few things:
1.  I am not “against” chapels or couples that choose the chapel experience in any way, shape or form.
2.  I am under the assumption that most chapels provide their own officiants (with a required ministers fee) but allow licensed ‘outsiders’ at the bride/grooms request.

I have discussed with many friends/family members that I was interested in working at a chapel this summer to get the real “chapel” experience. Well, I just got one of those experiences and I no longer have that desire. I think on-location wedding ceremonies and working with photographers in a more relaxed, no pressure setting is more up my alley!!

The scene:

-60 guests

-110 degrees outside

-7:30pm ceremony time. The prior ceremony was still there at 7:45pm so it didn’t start until close to 8pm

-dirty towels, glass bottles, and trash in the chapel area that I had to move!

-flowers on the isle from the previous ceremonies were not cleaned up.  (This can’t possibly be typical chapel protocol----right??)

-they handed me a microphone with no batteries. After batteries were put in, the microphone echoed so I didn't even end up using it. (No one runs sounds----oh wait, the officiant does!---see below)

-the music was run through an iPod (quite typical and OK) BUT it had to be run by ME (I haven’t practiced this before….yikes!) AND the mic and music couldn't be on at the same time so I had to switch the channels through the sound system----anyway, it was quite a little disaster. Lol.

-the photographer shot the entire ceremony from behind me….which I  felt was weird based on my prior wedding experiences….and her HUGE video tripod (again, behind me) was in the way and when I stepped to the side for the kiss I think I blocked it with my head because of the weird placement (Sorry!!) She seemed so cold and I guess I understand she is trying to make a sale, but geez!!

Anyway, this is what I don’t understand…..why would a chapel make things so difficult for an “outsider”??  You still want the bride/groom to be happy regardless of the minister they chose….right?

Well, I think this Bride&Groom were overall quite happy with the ceremony which is the most important part as far as I am concerened----and I really hope I didn't ruin their wedding video!  :(
